WordPress VIP publishes more than forty customer cases. A reference list on its own never decides anything; the question is whether that organisation’s problem resembles yours. This page collects the strongest cases with their results, and says what each one actually teaches.

Wider context: what WordPress VIP is.

Staying up when it counts

  • TIME — carried the traffic from its biggest announcement of the year without interruption.
  • ADWEEK — uninterrupted service through a major live event, alongside tripled content creation and an 82% traffic surge.
  • Platform-wide — continuous service through the 2024 US election while simultaneous attacks were absorbed.

What it teaches: what these cases share is that the traffic was unpredictable. Steady high traffic is a solved problem. The hard case is the spike you cannot put in a calendar. If your traffic is stable, these are not your cases. If it depends on a campaign, a launch or a news cycle, they are exactly your cases.

Teams producing more with less effort

  • The Times — a 34% increase in publishing efficiency, and a 62% reduction in the steps editors take to complete a task.
  • Pew Research Center — interactive content production down from weeks to minutes.
  • Capgemini — productivity gains after moving from another platform.

What it teaches: in the Times case the number that matters is not 34%, it is 62%. The drop in steps explains where the efficiency came from: the workflow got simpler. A platform change alone does not improve team output; redesigning the workflow alongside it does. Ask which one you are being sold, because the two differ in scope and duration.

Turning readers into customers

  • Slate — 110% year-on-year growth in paid subscriptions.
  • Katie Couric Media — audience insight converted into engagement growth.
  • USA TODAY — content measurement standardised across more than 600 publications.

What it teaches: the USA TODAY case points at something different. At portfolio scale the real gain is not that one site is measured better, it is that the entire portfolio is measured the same way. With a hundred brands each on its own setup, you cannot produce a single comparable number for the board.

Consolidating a scattered estate

  • Ubisoft — a secure, global internal portal consolidating scattered in-house tools.
  • Recurrent Ventures — seven sites migrated in a short window.
  • CNN Brasil — grew its news profile and audience despite competitors holding a fifteen to twenty year head start.
  • Ford Foundation — faster workflows and a stronger security posture.

What it teaches: Ubisoft is the most interesting case on the list because it is not a public publication but an internal portal. Organisations evaluating VIP routinely overlook this: the same infrastructure can carry an internal knowledge system as easily as an outward-facing site. If you have an intranet renewal on the horizon, look at this one specifically.

How to read these cases

These are all vendor-published. That does not make them wrong, but it does mean they were selected: failed projects never appear. Five ways to get more out of the list during an evaluation.

  1. Ask for the case closest to your profile. Similar scale, similar sector, similar team size. A media case tells a government body very little.
  2. Ask what the number started from. “34% efficiency gain” is a good figure, but improvement is easy from a bad starting point.
  3. Separate the source of the gain. The platform, the redesigned workflow, or another programme running at the same time?
  4. Ask about the migration timeline and effort separately. Cases describe outcomes and rarely describe the effort of getting there.
  5. Ask for a reference call. A published case is a start; half an hour with that organisation’s owner tells you far more.

Let us find the case that matches your profile

None of the above is our work; it is all the platform’s published material. What we add is reading that list against your situation: which case maps to your problem, which figure could plausibly apply to you, and what to ask the vendor for.
